Hello, I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC

Steve Jobs died on Wednesday at the age of 56. Being hailed as the greatest businessman of our time, he defined the ways we go about our daily lives. Not only making great productivity tools, but ensuring they were asthetically pleasing, elevating Apple in our cultural psyche. To most, technology was merely a form of function. But Steve Jobs pioneered new spaces to exist and objects to to identify much the same way we would identify a shoe, or a film, which become more meaningful than just the product.

"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being," says Apple CEO Tim Cook. "Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

In 1976 Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Computer with friend, Steve Wozniak marketing the world's first personal computer. While other computer manufacturers felt computers were only to be used in business, Steve Jobs brought it to us en mass. After being incorporated in 1977, Apple releases it's Apple II, with color graphics.

Through the years, Apple reached some serious deep dark lows, after Steve Jobs left in 1985. Coming back a decade later as an interm CEO, Steve Jobs returns Apple to profitability by releasing the iMac in 1996. In 2007 releases the iPhone, starting a cultural change that to this day is still being felt.

On August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs announced that he is resigning as Apple's CEO. He had been due battling pancreatic cancer, since 2008. Tim Cook takes the title and Apple names Steve Jobs as chairman.

On Wednesday October 5, 2011 Apple announces that Steve Jobs passed away and did not give a cause.

Regardless of which camp you reside, today we are all a Mac.

Understanding Anthropomorphic Controls and your Joystick

For those that haven't heard about it, IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover contains a feature that's called Anthropomorphic Controls. This feature ensures that the pilot can't do things in the cockpit that a real pilot couldn't do considering they only have two hands.

When your hardware is setup correctly, Anthropomorphic Controls will add a huge level of immersion on two sides. One, on your side as a pilot you will need to understand that you can't just start flipping switches, moving dials and pulling levers. You'll need to plan your moves and execute them in an efficient manner. On the other side, your opponent is limited in the same manner and if you are better at control management, then that will give you an edge.

Tags: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover,Dedicated Server,das Adlernest,Joystick,Anthropomorphic Controls

II./JG 1 now has a dedicated server for IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover called "II./JG 1: das Adlernest." The server is listed in the server list by going to Multiplayer | Client and viewing the servers.

Currently we are running a mission modelled after the escape from Dunkirk, "Operation Dynamo," graciously provided to the community by TheEnlightenedFlorist on the 1C boards. It is a fairly simple mission, with various UK missions: Such as Hurricanes patrolling Dunkirk high and low. Defiants defending the ships. Various ground units are trying to move to the port. Trains are bringing troops into the city from the south. And of course, Anti-Aircraft is defending the city and airfields.
Tags: IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover,Dedicated Server, das Adlernest

Jagdgeschwader 1 Sites are Launched!

A couple years ago, we decided to switch out the JG 1 website with a more user and administratively friendly and easier to support website. We were having problems with our hosting provider at the time which the underlying issue was spread throughout the existing code base. That plus the fact that changing how it looked would be a major undertaking.
Tags: Jagdgeschwader 1,Website,II./JG 1

IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Released in North America

Originally slated for a 19th Apr 2011 release in the US, Best Buy is now carrying it on it's shelf. This comes 3 months after the rest of the world saw it on the initial release date.

Boasting over 15 "true-to-life" flyable aircraft, IL-2 Cliffs of Dover is the latest installment to the critically acclaimed, IL-2 Sturmovik from 1C: Maddox Games.

Having purchased this just after the release date, I can say that the recommended configuration is really the playable minimum. This hardware will get you
a playable framerate.

While my initial reaction is that this is just IL-2 HD, I am hopeful that 1C will use this as a jump off point to bring them in line with other titles, such as A-10C. The in cockpit graphics are wonderful, the damage
sequences are better than IL-2 Sturmovik. But the landscape, cities and towns are just repackaged, complete with the same issues we saw years ago in IL-2 Sturmovik. The damage model and flight model are new to the sim and add a lot to it.

Even with the short comings I would recommend any flight sim fan to purchase this game.
